DISCOVER THE TRANSLATOR BEHIND THE WORDS
Ana Paula Bonifacino
Professional English to Spanish translator, certified by the Association of Certified Translators of the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina
I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I learned English as a pre-teen while living in the United States in Potomac, Maryland. This experience was key to choosing my career path, and I graduated from the Argentine Catholic University as an English to Spanish translator in 1992. Immediately thereafter, I became certified by the Association of Certified Translators of the City of Buenos Aires and, in 2006, I became an associate member of the American Translators Association. My professional development has also included participating in lectures and advanced training courses in various translation topics, in addition to becoming a conference interpreter. I have been a full-time translator since 1992, mostly as a freelancer, which allowed me to travel and work at the same time. My translations cover a wide range of fields, especially law, finance, accounting and the pharmaceutical industry. From 2006 to 2010 I worked in an international translation agency with offices in the US, Europe and South America. Working there gave me an unmatched perspective on the industry, as well as experience serving a multinational corporation with clients from all over the world. I was hired as the company's first in-house translator, and was later promoted to production manager and language department director. My experience in these roles includes managing projects into several languages, training in the use of translation tools, incorporating quality assurance processes, international client services and vendor management, such as of Asian and European translation agencies. In addition, I developed my capacity to lead work teams and use state-of-the-art technology to maintain the consistency of projects involving many people, irrespective of the volume and with regard for the time limitations of each case. All of this was very fulfilling both personally and professionally, and gave me an understanding of the industry that I apply to each project I undertake.

"With the help of Ms. Bonifacino, GEI developed a Spanish-language version of our manual on household biogas.
Her excellent translation work made it possible for more people from the Spanish-speaking world to benefit from biogas technology in addition to English and Chinese speakers."
